Your OS or Operating System is the software used to run your PC. Now most people dont ask what kind of operating system are you running, they ask what version of Microsoft® Windows® are you using. And Windows® is a type of OS.

Windows® isnt the only OS out there though. However it is one of the most widely used. Some names you might be more familar with as far as Microsoft® Operating Systems are:

So what OS is right for you? Well since anything older than Windows XP is not available for retail sale or not suported by Microsoft® the choices are either XP Home, XP Pro or XP Media or Vista.

As of Jan 1, 2009 Microsoft announced they will be discontinuing the WindowsXP Series. Support will continue until further notice.
